Outside The Wall

Corey Hildebrand - bass, lead vocals

Undoubtedly, Corey's face is one of the most familiar to Saskatchewan's music-loving audiences.  The reason his presence is highly coveted becomes obvious once you experience the flawless marriage of his brilliant bass artistry with his powerful vocal performances.  It is then no surprise to find him successfully fulfilling the challenging duties of front-man/bassist for Outside the Wall, or to see him also currently fronting a classic rock cover band called the Chumps.  Corey graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, majoring in string bass.  In his 23 years as a bassist, he has played every type of music imaginable including opera, classical, jazz and country, plus all styles of rock and pop in such groups as the Flaming Sambucas and Peak Freeman.  Corey has recorded and
toured with myriad artists, one of the more notable being Jay Semko of the Northern Pikes.  As a creative and accomplished musician in his own right, Corey writes and records original material, but has been known to pen music for other performers as well.  Some of these compositions have received national radio airplay.  All who know Corey find his soft-spoken manner and gentlemanly disposition endearing.

Lou Fontaine - drums, vocals

Lou's talents are very much in demand these days.  Besides bringing both a solid rhythmic and administrative foundation to Outside the Wall, Lou currently plays with 3 other bands: long-time area favorites the Flaming Sambucas, the Chumps, and Mother Hubbard.  During his 20-year drumming career, he has honed his skills playing everything from country to heavy metal in groups like the New York Fuzz, the Castaways and the Lost Boys.  As a full-time musician, he spent two and a half years touring Canada with the Carson Cole band.  Lou has done recording session work for such artists as Kim Fontaine, Dawn Prichard, Al Sochan, Corey Hildebrand and Mother Hubbard.  In a 2-year tenure with Ricasso, Lou made significant contributions to their CD in addition to recording singles that appeared on more than one compilation project showcasing Saskatchewan talent.  Much to the disappointment of many aspiring students, he no longer has time to teach drumming because of his busy schedule.  Everyone enjoys Lou's quick wit and sense of humor.  A plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies might even persuade Lou to take a look under the hood of your car.

Kevin Barrett - keyboards, vocals

Kevin's multi-faceted capabilities as a highly-skilled keyboardist and acclaimed singer/songwriter most often land him in the position of front man for any group fortunate enough to have him.  Heading up a band bearing his name, Kevin recorded a CD of his own music in 1992 entitled Makin' Movies, which received national media attention and created opportunities for the band to open shows for such huge stars as Bryan Adams and Steve Miller.  In Outside the Wall, Kevin's association with his "right-hand man", Ron Clemens, continues a tradition that reaches back 20 years to include groups like Los Tornados, the Warning, Gallery, and Tornado Warning.  Occasionally, you will find Kevin effortlessly answering the challenge presented by live solo performances.  Kevin's varied abilities are sought after by many, and this keeps him perpetually busy with innumerable studio projects and stage appearances.  With a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Kevin's positive impact extends even further into the community through his role as high school teacher and volunteer coach for several youth sports programs.

Blair Finley - guitars, vocals

Described as a gift for embracing the blue spectrum of rock with fond enthusiasm and accomplished ability, Blair's talents flourish naturally in the habitat provided by Outside the Wall, yet he is equally at ease in a variety of musical environments.  For this reason, Blair is often called upon to do fill-in work with several Saskatoon-based bands.  One such band, that Blair also happens to be a former regular member of, is the highly respected Flaming Sambucas.  He additionally teams up with Outside the Wall members Corey Hildebrand and Lou Fontaine for some classic rock fun in the Chumps.  In the earlier stages of his 15-year professional history, Blair rooted himself primarily in rhythm and blues.  He went on to become a full-time touring musician with the celebrated rock group Lineup In Paris and with major-label recording artist Glen Stace.  When Blair isn't preparing for a show or performing live, chances are you will find him in the studio either creating his own music or bringing his magic to other artists' recording projects.  Blair's genuine humility and cordial character charm everyone he encounters.

Ron Clemens - guitars, vocals

Ron brings 25 years of performing experience to Outside the Wall, during which time he refined his art through affiliations with such musically diverse projects as the Kevin Barrett Band, the Secretions, Los Tornados, the Warning, Gallery, the Guise, Tornado Warning, B.C. Read and the Bullets, the Relentless Blues Band, the Brown Brothers, and Marquee.  Ron has participated in studio sessions too numerous to mention here and has also appeared in several Canadian network television productions.  Upon hearing his haunting guitar work on the Secretions 1997 CD titled Naked, his passion for Pink Floyd becomes apparent.  Ron also tracked most of the guitars for Kevin Barrett's 1992 disk "Makin' Movies".  In 1989, a session with bluesman B.C. Read earned Ron the award of "Session Player of the Year" by the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association - an impressive title considering that among the nominees that year was the phenomenal Jack Semple.  Ron's
musical perseverance indicates that he values the joy of playing above "success" in the industry.  This sincerity is apparent and appreciated by many who have heard him perform.

Carrie Ruep - saxophone, percussion, vocals

Although just recently introduced to performing live in a rock setting, Carrie has been musically active since she was a child growing up in St. Benedict.  She started playing the saxophone in elementary school, and in the sixteen years since then she has played in several concert bands, one of which appeared in the SaskTel jazz festival.  She currently maintains involvement with a concert band that performs live on a regular basis.  Carrie's singing ability was also obvious at an early age, leading to her participation in school choirs and later landing her the lead role in a production of the popular musical "The Sound of Music".  Those who know Carrie often beseech her to perform at weddings and other special occasions, and she happily accommodates them.  It's certain that musical talent like Carrie's couldn't be kept private for very long, and audiences are delighted to see it finally and deservedly unveiled.  Carrie says she feels fortunate to be a part of Outside the Wall and treasures the friendships she has cultivated with her fellow band members.  The feeling among them is unanimously mutual.
